The NY Generation Obama Team

On the campaign trail…

On Tuesday (3/18/08), Obama delivered a landmark speech, titled “”A More Perfect Union”, addressing one of the most important and divisive issues our nation faces – race. You can watch his speech here: http://my.barackobama.com/page/content/hisownwords.

The Obama campaign has seen the fruits of their labors materialize with decisive primary victories in Wyoming and Mississippi last week – both by margins of over 20%. This week, Iowa and California finalized delegate counts. Obama netted a total of 12 delegates in this final count – 9 in Iowa and 3 in California. Barack continues to build on his delegate and popular vote lead over Senator Clinton, and has won twice as many states to date.

Nonetheless, the Democratic race remains too close for either side to claim victory. In the next four weeks, 345 delegates will be up for grabs in Pennsylvania, Indiana and North Carolina. Our current focus is on Pennsylvania’s primary on April 22nd, with an immediate milestone of Monday, March 24th – the deadline by which voters must be registered as a Democrat to participate in the Pennsylvania primary. We are already working hard in PA and are excited to get everyone involved – greater details on how you can help are listed below.

Getting Involved…

In Pennsylvania: We’re focused on making sure voters are registered as Democrats by March 24th to ensure their eligibility to vote in the primary. However, we’re planning out our Pennsylvania strategy in full, so keep reading if you can help anytime between now and April 22nd. There are three key ways to help:

1) From Home: Supporting the cause doesn’t have to take a lot of time or energy. You can make calls to voters in PA from home between 9am-9pm EST. The online system is easy to use, and provides a “click and read” call script to walk you through conversations. Follow this link to call from home: http://my.barackobama.com/page/contact/splash/callpa

2) Travel to PA: There’s nothing more effective than old-fashioned, grassroots, on-the-ground campaigning. NY GO’s on-the-ground action coordinator, Steven Newmark, is ready to assist in getting you setup. All you have to do is email snewmark@gmail.com and let Steven know (a) what dates you are available, (b) if you have a car and are willing to take others, (c) where in PA you would like to travel (if you have a preference), and (d) if you need overnight accommodations. It’s that simple.

Alternatively, you can register with the broad campaign team at: http://my.barackobama.com/page/s/cometopa

3) Send a Student to PA: We’ve got a solid crew of students in New York who are pumped to go to PA to work with NY GO. If you can’t make it yourself, send someone in your place. Email Steven Newmark at snewmark@gmail.com to sponsor a student.

In New York: We’ve got some great events scheduled in the coming weeks. For those of you who attended our March 4th Primary Returns Party at Pressure, you know that NY GO knows how to have a good time too. Over 700 Barack Obama supporters from across the state came together in support of the campaign and watched the primary returns broadcasted on the venue’s movie sized screens.

If you’re interested in joining our team, we’re always on the lookout for great guys and gals to help out. Send an email to GO@NewYorkObama.com to let us know a little about yourself and what you’d like to get involved with (fundraising, events, publicity, on-the-ground, etc). You can also find this and more info at our blog page: http://newyorkgo.wordpress.com/.

Anywhere in the US: There are GO groups all over the country, and there is always a way to get involved. Shoot us an email at GO@NewYorkObama.com and we’ll get you connected. In the mean time, click on your state at http://my.barackobama.com/page/content/statepages to see what’s going on.

Donate to Obama for America

It’s no secret that running a competitive campaign takes resources – we’ve got full time staff to support across the country, advertising media to distribute, events to organize, amongst many other things…

We don’t take money from Washington lobbyists or special-interest political action committees. Instead, our broad base of individual donors ensures our campaign answers to no one but the people.
